Historical information and background of the Scientist

Bertram was born in a hospital in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada on July 15, 1918. He was raised on a farm near Milk River and he lived with his mother, father, and sister. In the winter of 1926, his family moved to Vancouver B.C.

Bertram Brockhouse, was a professor at McMaster University, winner of the most prestigious awards in science, and the only Canadian Nobel laureate who was born, educated and completed his life's work in this country, died Monday October 13, 2003 at St. Joseph's hospital. He was 85 years old.
Brockhouse, one of 17 Canadian winners of a Nobel, won his physics prize for work in neutron scattering -- a field he invented.

Contribution to the field of study

Contribution to the field of study:

Brockhouse conducted experiments in the physics of solids such as metals and crystals. This kind of physics is called solid state physics. As his tool he used the neutron spectrometer that he developed at Chalk River, which allowed him to look right inside the crystalline structure of solids to find out how solid things like rocks and gems are held together.

Science Related Career

Space related career path:
Studying physics can help land you a job in space.

You could become a cosmologist and investigate the evolution of the universe; a planet hunter who searches for habitable planets around other stars; an astrophysicist who searches for dark matter and black holes, or an engineer that designs satellites or robots that land on other planets.

Transport related career path:

You can design jet fighters, or electric sports cars.

With the advent of commercial spaceflight and the need to develop more environmentally friendly ways of getting around.
Sports and game career path:

It is a career in which you design the technology that helps us play and compete.

Anywhere from designing a better road bike or programming a more realistic computer games requires physics.

Music and televisions:

You can be a sound engineer who controls the mix at a music concert to the special effects technician working on the latest action movie, many of the people that work in the media industry need physics .

Required Training: A science-focused undergraduate degree; M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) or D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) degree, along with a residency.
